Faith formation is not just for children and teens. The purpose of faith formation, or catechesis, is to make a person’s faith become living, conscious and active through the light of instruction. Faith formation is a lifelong process, the goal of which is to lead people to a mature, adult faith, so that the whole person sees things first through the eyes of faith.
Thank you for answering the call to this important ministry of evangelizing and transmitting the faith; this is the call to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). By answering this call, you are entrusted to a very important task that requires catechist formation, spiritual growth and a commitment to bear witness to your faith.
The Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education in Vicariate 1 (LCCA) are offering Level 1 Catechist Certification Courses for the Archdiocese of Chicago at two locations in our area. These courses will begin the second week of January and run through mid-March. A spiritual retreat will also be offered as well as additional courses throughout the summer months.
These classes will provide dynamic theological and methodical formation and resources as well as spiritual and prayer experiences to facilitate an encounter with Christ. The effectiveness of your ministry comes from the fruits of your spiritual growth and closer relationship with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The vitality of parishes depends on the formation of children, youth, and families. Just providing information does not ensure successful catechesis. Experiences of prayer and creative lessons will help transform the next generation into true-disciples of Christ.
