Poland is a culturally rich and proud country which is contemporary yet committed to its traditions. It is important to recognize Poland’s unique cultural beliefs and attitudes in order to understand Polonia in Chicago.
By taking part in this workshop, you will know and understand Polish culture on a different level, you will be able to build more effective relationships with your Polish parishioners, neighbors, colleagues and coworkers through greater cultural sensitivity, not to mention that you will have a chance to experience some flavors of the Polish culture and cuisine.
The workshop will include:
Overview of the Polish values: religion, culture, language, beliefs and customs
Key Polish religious and cultural values and attitudes in the interactions with Polish people: Roman Catholicism, hierarchy, importance of relationships and family, reserved nature
Interpreting and adapting to the Polish mindset
Building effective relationships with Polish neighbors and build trust
Polish communication styles: openness, honesty, individualism, contemplative negotiation approach
Interacting with Poles – challenges and solutions
Basics of Polish grammar and Church life related vocabulary
Polish Catholicism and the Polish Culture: Customs, Language, Values – Myths and Facts – is workshop is designed and conducted by experts from the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland.
